South Hamilton looked to right the ship, following back-to-back losses to close out non-district play against South Hardin and West Marshall. The Hawks homecoming date came with the Broncos of Belmond-Klemme, who were in search of their first win of the season, in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
The Hawks took the opening kickoff and ran off more than half the first quarter, in a drive capped off by a 4-yard touchdown run by Landon Skartvedt to put South Hamilton up 8-0. Skartvedt would follow up his touchdown run with a defensive touchdown, as he picked off a Brian Duran pass and ran it back 37 yards for a touchdown to give South Hamilton a 16-0 halftime lead.
Corey Klemp’s offense continued to impose it’s will on Belmond-Klemme as Austin Busch, who recently returned from injury, punched in his first two touchdowns of the season on 1-yard runs. Sandwiched in between was Tycin Barkema’s first touchdown of the season on 1 53-yard dash, as the 3 scores put South Hamilton up 38-0. Belmond-Klemme would add a touchdown late in the 4th quarter from Clayton Pletsch to set the final at 38-7.
Belmond-Klemme falls to 0-4 and will face Manson-Northwest Webster on Friday. South Hamilton goes to 2-2 and 1-0 in the district, and will travel to Woodward to take on Woodward-Granger on Friday in the KZWC Game of the Week.
