Webster City will look to rebound from another tough, non-district loss this Friday as they close out non-district play with a trip north on I-35 to take on the Mohawks of Mason City. This will be the 3rd all-time matchup between the two, the first coming in 1942, with a Mason City win, and the last 2 both in the 2020 season, both wins by Webster City.
Mason City picked up its first win on the season in Week 3, with a 35-0 shutout of the Charles City Comets. The Mohawks had started 0-2 with a 28-13 loss to Fort Dodge, and a 41-8 loss to Spencer.
Mason City has been lead by junior quarterback Kale Hobart, who has thrown for 362 yards and 3 touchdowns in the first 3 games in the Mohawks pass-heavy offense. The Mohawks have most done running back by committee this year, with Branson Peters, Leon Walker and Malaki Johnson all splitting carries in the backfield. Receivers Carter Thomas and Isaiah Washington have lead the way in the passing game as well.
Following their own 1-2 start, the Lynx will look to rediscover their running game after being shut down by #5 Waverly-Shell Rock last week. Webster City’s lone bright spot was quarterback Ty McKinney, who threw a pair of touchdown passes in the loss and has yet to turn the ball over. Bob Howard’s crew would like to re-establish it’s rushing attack, however, that includes CJ Hisler, Jaxon Cherry, and Connor Hanson.
Kickoff is slated for 7 PM in Mason City, you can hear live coverage of the game on 95.7 KQWC with Jerry Klaver.
