South Hamilton looked to bounce back following it’s Week 2 loss to South Hardin, but would have to do so against longtime-rival, and the #10 team in Class 2A, West Marshall. The Trojans were coming off of their own drubbing as they fell to Nevada 36-12 in Week 2.
The night started with both teams feeling themselves out, until West Marshall put together an 82-yard scoring drive, capped off by a Peyton Hart quarterback sneak to give the Trojans an 8-0 lead. South Hamilton would punt on the ensuing possession, and the Trojans would waste no time in putting more points on the board. Peyton Hart would find Garth Nason for an 88-yard touchdown pass to put West Marshall up 16-0. The Trojans tried to put more points on the board before halftime, but Landon Skartvedt picked off an errant Peyton Hart pass to send it to halftime, 16-0.
West Marshall struck again in the 3rd, as the Trojans drove 77 yards, and capped it off with a Peyton Hart 12-yard touchdown run to put the Trojans up 22-0. The West Marshall defense would get in on the action as Preston Pope picked up a South Hamilton fumble and ran it back 56 yards for a touchdown to put the Trojans up 30-0. The final score of the night came on a 20-yard touchdown run by Caden Vellinga to give the final of 38-0.
West Marshall will open up district play against Chariton on Friday. South Hamilton opens up district play against Belmond-Klemme on Friday.
