South Hamilton lost their first regular season game since 2019 on Friday, with a 20-6 loss to rival South Hardin in Eldora. The Hawks barely passed the 100-yards rushing mark, and will look to regroup offensively, but will do so against a well-rounded West Marshall team. It’s the 36th recorded meeting between the 2 schools, with West Marshall leading the series 26-10.
The Trojans have been lead by a 1-2 rushing punch early in 2021, consisting for senior running back Preston Pope, and junior quarterback Peyton Hart. Pope has rushed for 268 yards and 5 touchdowns, while Hart has rushed for 193 yards and 3 touchdowns. Hart hasn’t done much in the passing game, only throwing for 175 yards and an interception in 2 games against South Tama and Nevada.
Through 2 games, South Hamilton’s wishbone rushing attack has been lead by junior Landon Skartvedt, who scored the only touchdown for the Hawks in their loss to South Hamilton. Skardtvedt leads the team with 316 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Tycin Barkema is the second leading rusher with 78 yards. The Hawks hope to have fullback Austin Busch back this week against their Heart of Iowa Conference rival.
Kickoff will be at 7 PM at West Marshall High School in State Center.
