The Webster City Lynx football team made a big response on Friday night, following their tough Week 1 loss to Humboldt in Webster City. Bob Howard’s Lynx took down Boone by a final of 42-0, giving the Hall of Fame coach his 100th career win at Webster City, while also preserving an unblemished, 11-0 career record against the Toreadors.
The Lynx and the Toreadors matched wits throughout most of the 1st quarter. The scoreless tie was broken by CJ Hisler, who exploded for a 70-yard touchdown run near the end of the period, to give Webster City a 7-0 lead. Webster City would then tack on a Jaxon Cherry 6-yard touchdown to give the Lynx a 14-0 lead.
On the ensuing Webster City possession, the Lynx struck again on a CJ Hisler 60-yard touchdown run. Hisler carried the ball 6 times, for 140 yards and 2 touchdowns, and averaged a phenomenal 23 yards a carry, he also added an interception as well. Jaxon Cherry would punch in his 2nd touchdown of the half to give Webster City a 28-0 halftime lead.
The Lynx added 2 more scored in the second half, as CJ Hisler got involved in the passing game, hauling in a 36-yard touchdown pass from Ty McKinney to extend the Webster City lead to 35-0. Austin Mason added the cherry on top with a 27-yard touchdown, to set the final at 42-0.
Webster City sent their record to 1-1 with the win, and will host Class 4A #6 Waverly-Shell Rock on Friday.
