South Hamilton opened their season last Friday with a 48-20 win over rival Roland-Story. The Hawks, now with an 11-game regular season winning-streak, will look to make it 12 in a row against another county-border rival in the Tigers from South Hardin. The last 10 games between the two have been split even at 5 a piece, but the Tigers lead the all-time series 9-7, dating back to South Hardin’s days as Eldora-New Providence.
South Hardin started off their 2021 season with a loss to the defending Class A runners-up in the Spartans of Grundy Center, falling by a score of 35-7. The Tigers are led on both sides of the ball by quarterback and linebacker Mason Shedahl. Sheldahl was 11-for-18 for 164 yards, with one rushing touchdown, while also recording a team-high 7 tackles against Grundy Center. Sheldahl’s favorite target against Grundy Center was junior receiver Ryan Walters, who caught 9 passes for 153 yards last Friday.
The Hawks, winners of both meetings the teams had a season ago, will look to build off of a dominating offensive performance last week. Junior running back Landon Skartvedt led South Hamilton’s wishbone attack with 225 yards and 2 touchdowns on 18 carries. Tycin Barkema also added 73 yards on 13 carries against the Norseman as well. The Hawks are also hoping that senior fullback Austin Busch is able to return from an injury that kept him out of last Friday’s game.
Kickoff is slated for 7 PM in Eldora, Quinn Douglas will have call of the action on 92.9 KZWC, pregame will start at 6:30 PM.
