Clarion-Goldfield-Dows started their season with a win over county-rival Eagle Grove, by a final score of 41-6. Week 2 presents another Wright County foe for Caleb Vogel’s bunch as the Cowboys welcome Belmond-Klemme to Clarion on Friday night. Belmond-Klemme is 4-2 in the last 6 meetings dating back to 2008, and the Broncos lead the all-time series 26-9, in meetings dating back to 1933.
Belmond-Klemme comes into Friday night with an 0-1 start to 2021 after a 21-6 loss to AGWSR in Week 1. The Broncos are lead by a one-two punch in the backfield of junior quarterback Gavin O’Connor and senior running back Tate Sander. Senior Clayton Pletsch also gave some big carries in Week 1 for the Broncos. Sander, along with senior Cameron Roberts and junior Hayden Pals, will look to bring the defense further along in Week 2.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows comes into their matchup with Belmond-Klemme with a 1-0 record, following their Week 1 win against Eagle Grove. The Cowboys were led by the legs of running back Neven Foss, who rushed for a pair of touchdowns, while also returning a kickoff for a touchdown. Junior quarterback Ethan Traub also did an effective job leading the Cowboy offense, throwing a touchdown to Coady Olson last Friday. Neven Foss also led the charge defensively, as the senior had a team-high 10 tackles, as well as an interception against Eagle Grove.
Kickoff is slated for 7 PM at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Middle School in Clarion.
