Webster City hosted their annual Lynx Cross Country Invite on Tuesday evening at Briggs Woods Golf Course. 17 teams, including the host Lynx, competed in the boys and the girls meet, in a field that was loaded with talent. At the end, it was the Comets of North Polk the took home the both the girls and boys title, on Tuesday night.
The girls meet was loaded with top-tier teams, including Class 3A #1 Ballard, as well as 3A-ranked teams in Waverly-Shell Rock and North Polk, 2A #11 Roland-Story, and 1A-ranked teams Fort Dodge, St. Edmonds and Manson-Northwest Webster. The North Polk girls won the meet by a score with a low score of 37. The Comets also boasted the individual champion in junior Liza Schaffer, who broke the course record with a time of 19:35, breaking the record of 20:25 set by Lydia Maas of Hampton in 2020. Maas finished 3rd and Tuesday Night’s meet.
On the boys side, North Polk also dominated the meet from start to finish. The Comet boys, ranked #2 in Class 3A, had it’s top-two runners finish 1st and 2nd in twins Zach and Max Sporaa. The Comets won the met with a score of 33, with second being Waverly-Shell Rock, with a score of 62.
Webster City finished 13th in the boys meet, with senior Jose Ramirez the top Lynx runner, finishing 18th with a time of 18:18. The Lynx finished 10th in the girls meet, with their top-placer coming with Emma Peck, who finished 27th with a time of 22:51.
South Hamilton also competed in Tuesday’s meet, with the girls finishing 8th and the boys finishing 15th.
