South Hamilton’s volleyball team capped off an action-filled first week of volleyball with a trip to Clarion to compete in the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows tournament on Saturday. The Hawks finished the day with a 4-2 record, bringing their win-loss mark to 8-5 heading into the second week of the season.
The Hawks opened with Estherville-Lincoln Central, and swept the Midgets 2-0. Following a 0-2 loss to 3-time state qualifiers in Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, the Hawks reeled off back-to-back wins over Eagle Grove and Belmond-Klemme by scores of 2-0 and 2-1 respectively.
South Hamilton dropped its penultimate game of the day in a 0-2 loss to the Bearcats of North Butler. The Hawks ended the day with a statement, as they took down Class 3A foe Clear Lake by a final of 2-1.
Statistically, senior MacKenzy Grady lead the Hawks in kills throughout the tournament with 17, with fellow senior Caleigh Hewitt right behind her with 13 kills. Senior Paige Evans lead the Hawks in assists in the tournament with 34, while Trista Strohman finished with 19 assists.
South Hamilton is back in action on Tuesday night, as they travel to Eldora to take on the undefeated South Hardin Tigers. First serve is scheduled for 7 PM.
