Fox(NEW YORK) — Angela Bassett has played many important women in her career, from the illustrious Tina Turner in the biopic What’s Love Got to Do with It, to Betty Shabazz in both Malcolm Xand Panther, Katherine Jackson in The Jacksons: An American Dream and even Voletta Wallace in Notorious.
While playing these iconic women might’ve been a no-brainer for the talented Ms. Bassett, the Oscar-nominated actress and star of Fox’s hit 911 had to take a minute to think about who could possibly play her in a film one day.
“I don’t know, there’s so many phenomenal young actresses out here today,” Bassett tells ABC Audio.
“There’s, you know, the incredible Anika Noni Rose and Naturi Naughton and on and on and on,” she continues. “Just beautiful. And that’s just two of a list of many, just beautiful, sisters.”
Bassett’s suggestions may come as a surprise to many fans, who over the years have suggested the likes of Oscar-winner Viola Davis and even Kerry Washington to play the Black Panther star.
But Bassett’s picks are extremely personal. As you may recall, Bassett co-starred with Naughton in 2009’s Notorious, and Rose has seemingly become a close friend to the actress over the years.
“I appreciate their work [and] love them,” Bassett says. “They can play me, if they so choose to….bring more talent to the table.”
