ABC/Randy Holmes(LOS ANGELES) — Like father, like daughter.
On Monday, former wrestling champ Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson congratulated his daughter, Simone, for signing a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment.
In an Instagram post, Johnson says he’s so proud to have his daughter carry on their family name, as the first-ever fourth-generation WWE athlete.
“Carry our family name proudly, but your road will always be yours to create, earn & own,” he wrote. “So proud. Live your dream. Let’s work.”
Johnson’s father, Rocky “Soul Man” Johnson, who recently passed, rose to wrestling fame in the 1980s as part of the first black tag team to win in a WWE championship with his partner Tony Atlas. After retiring in 1991, the elder Johnson began training son Dwayne, who went on to win 17 championships.
Rocky Johnson was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008, alongside his father-in-law and Samoan professional wrestler Peter Maivia, who passed in 1982.
Simone Johnson says she fell in love with wrestling as a little girl, writing on Instagram, “this will be my life on day, this is for me. I’m humbled, grateful & ready to work. Let’s do this.”
