Walt Disney Studios(NEW YORK) — When Frozen 2 opened in theaters last November, excited young fans and their families packed theaters across the globe, selling a flurry of tickets. On Sunday, the highly anticipated Frozen sequel officially became the highest grossing animated movie of all time.
Earning $1.325 billion in just six weeks, the film has officially toppled its predecessor for the coveted title. For the record, Frozen scored $1.281 during its box office run.
With this distinction, Disney is now behind the three highest-earning animated flicks of all time, reports Entertainment Weekly. Incredibles 2, now the third highest-grossing animated film, raked in $1.243 billion during its theatrical release.
Frozen 2, starring Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad, and Jonathan Groff is still in theaters, so it’s very likely the movie’s already record-shattering haul could swell to an even greater number.
