“How exciting is it to be here tonight?” Ellen Ripley’s alter-ego said to the crowd, according to the North Bergen Record. “This is the night I’ve been waiting for! I’ve only been here a couple of hours, but I can tell this is a very special place in a very special town, and in a school like this you have extraordinary teachers…I met the students and I want to say they are so great.”
The play first got Weaver’s attention last month, when she and Alien director Ridley Scott saw viral video of the North Bergen High School Drama Club’s handiwork. They both tweeted their support of the production, and Scott donated thousands of dollars to fund a return engagement of the play.
“How about your next TEAM production being Gladiator?” he joked, referring to his Oscar-winning 2000 film.
