May 7th KQWC Sports Rundown

Busy day in the local high school sports scene Monday and Webster City High School was awash in activity with 3 different events taking place.

 

Eagle Grove Eagles

The Eagles Girls Golf Team took part in the Top of Iowa Conference West Division Golf Tournament taking place at Country Greens Golf Course in Armstrong, Iowa. The Eagles would field only two golfers and as such did not qualify for the team race but Britney Osborn finished in a tie for 21st with an 18 hole score of 124.

The Eagles Track and Field Teams would also take part in the Top of Iowa West Coed Invitational at Lake Mills High School. The Eagle Grove girls took 6th of 9 teams with 47 points and were led by the 1600m distance medley team which took home the gold.
The Eagles boys took 6th of 7 teams with 19 points and were led by Spencer Espejo who took 3rd in the 3200m run.

 

South Hamilton Hawks 

For the South Hamilton Hawks, the girls golf team visited Ames Golf and Country Club for a meet hosted by the Gilbert Tigers. The Hawks would finish 2nd of 4 teams with a season low score of 193. Krista Swenson led the way with a 9 hole round of 44 while Katelyn Sogard shot a 48.

 

Webster City Lynx

Webster City Senior Haley Flaws crosses the finish with an easy lead during the 100 meter dash prelims Monday at the North Central Conference meet.

It was a big day at Webster City High School as the North Central Conference girls track and field meet took place. The Lynx girls would come away with a 4th place finish with multiple girls having big days. Freshman Lexi Nichols rose to the challenge to win the high jump as the only finalist to clear 5’. Senior Haley Flaws tied for 2nd with a top jump of 4’10”. Flaws also dominated the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes taking gold in each. Cassidy Nerland continued to toy with the competition in the shot put and discus earning 2 more golds. And Junior Zooey Woodle had a top jump of 15 foot 2 inches to take 2nd in the long jump.

The Lynx boys visited Humboldt for the Conference meet. The Lynx would take 4th behind host Humboldt with a 101.5 points. James Cherry led the Lynx in the throwing events finishing 2nd in both the shot put and discus. Max Harfst won the 800m run and the 440 meter shuttle hurdle relay team also took home the gold.

The Lynx boys tennis would drop to 0 and 7 this season Monday as they were swept by Iowa Falls Alden at home. The Lynx girls team fought well but were also swept on the road at Clear Lake.

The Lynx boys soccer team fell in a tight match 1-0 to Garner Hayfield Ventura at home to drop to 6 and 6 on the season. And the Lynx girls hit the road in Mason City and took a 6-2 loss to drop to 2 and 5 this year.
