Solid day loaded with high school sporting events including a couple of conference track and field meets for three local schools. Now we just need the weather to play ball.
In the lone high school sports event to take place Wednesday, the South Hamilton Hawks girls golf team took part in the Heart of Iowa Conference Meet from Cedar Pointe Golf Course in Boone. The Hawks girls would take 4th of 8 teams with a cumulative score of 399 strokes as Krista Swenson would shoot 93 and Kenady Campbell would score a 99. Both would be named all conference for the Hawks. Winning the HOIC meet was Gilbert with a team score of 336. South Hamilton will be back on the Links tomorrow at Clarmond Country Club for a triangular meet with Eagle Grove and CGD that was rescheduled from April 6th.
Also just one college sports event scheduled for Wednesday as the Iowa Hawkeyes baseball team was set to host the Western Illinois Leathernecks in Iowa City but that single game was postponed for the 2nd time due to thunderstorms. It will be made up on May 15th. The 26 and 15 Hawkeyes will host the 17th ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys for a 3 game weekend set beginning tomorrow.
Lots of high school sports action coming up today, weather permitting of course, as there are strong chances of more thunderstorms today. At 2 O’clock the South Hamilton Hawks boys golf team will look to bounce back from a tough showing Tuesday in the conference meet when they visit Story City for a 6 team meet.
Both South Hamilton Hawks Track and Field teams are off to North Polk High School for a for the Comet Coed Invitational. That meet begins at 5PM from Polk City.
The Clarion Goldfield Dows Cowboys and Webster City Lynx boys and girls track teams will take part in the North Central Conference meet at St. Edmond in Fort Dodge. In the boys meet the Lynx bring the top ranked 110 meter hurdler in the conference in Jordan Tanner while the 4 by 800 team also holds the top spot. In the girls meet Haley Flaws is the top ranked 100 meter and 200 meter sprinter while Cassidy Nerland will look to defend her shot put and discus titles. Cowgirls Junior Courtney Harle is the second ranked 100 meter dash participant. The NCC conference meet begins at 4:30PM.
The Eagle Grove Eagles Track and Field teams also take part in their conference meets today in Lake Mills. The Top of Iowa conference meet will feature 9 schools hosted by the Lake Mills Bulldogs and begins at 4PM.
Both Eagles Golf teams will be in action today in triangulars with Lake Mills and North Union. The Eagles girls will be at Country Greens Golf Course in Armstrong while the boys will be at Eagle Grove Country Club.
Lynx boys tennis hosts St. Edmonds at Webster City high school today while the girls visit the Gaels in Fort Dodge. Both matches begin at 4:30PM.
And finally the Lynx boys soccer team will visit Boone.
