One person dead in house fire in rural Jewell on Monday.

Four fire departments battled a blaze at a rural residence three miles southwest of Jewell early Monday morning with further details released today (Tuesday). The fire was discovered at 2685 Poplar Grove Avenue just after midnight Monday morning. Firefighters from Jewell, Ellsworth, Stanhope and Story City responded to the scene. When firemen entered the house, they discovered the body of an individual. The name has not been released with the body taken to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s for an investigation and identity. The fire destroyed not only the house but also to four parked vehicles, LP gas cylinders used for barbecuing, propane and butane cooking utensils and other buildings on the property.,Firemen shut off an LP gas tank to prevent it from exploding. The cause behind the fire in rural Jewell remains under investigation. The Iowa State Fire Marshall has been called in to assist in finding the cause.
