ISU Women Fall, Hawkeye Women Gear Up For Big Matchup, Lynx Wrestlers Back in Action

Women’s College Basketball:

In the only action taking place Wednesday night,  the Iowa State Cyclones women’s basketball team learned why the Baylor Bears are ranked 6th in the nation. The Cyclones were outscored 52 to 16 in the first half on the way to an 89-49 loss which dropped them to 1 and 2 in Big Twelve play this year. For the 10th time in 14 games, Bridget Carleton led the Cyclone scoring effort as the junior finished with 15 points along with five rebounds. Overall Iowa State checks in at an even 7 and 7 this year and the road won’t get any easier when they hit the road Sunday to visit the 13 and 2 and 12th ranked Wester Virgina Mountaineers.

A big time womens college basketball tilt will take place in College Park, Maryland Thursday night. The 14 and 1, 18th ranked Iowa Hawkeyes will visit the 13 and 2, 13th ranked Maryland Terrapins in a battle of two teams that are unbeaten in Big Ten Play. The Hawkeyes are in the midst of a 7 game winning streak and The Hawkeyes’ start is the program’s best since the 1995-96 season when Iowa won 20 of its first 21 games on its way to a Sweet 16 appearance.The winner of that game will move into first place in the Big Ten, tipoff at 5PM.

Men’s College Basketball-
Unlike the womens team, the Iowa Hawkeye mens basketball team is not off to the start of the Big ten season they way they had hoped, checking in at 0 and 3 currently. The Hawkeyes will face another stiff challenge tonight when the 11-4 Ohio State Buckeyes visit Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Hawkeyes currently lead the all-time series by one game 79-78, tipoff in Iowa City between the Hawks and Buckeyes is set for 6PM.
The Northern Iowa Panthers men’s basketballers will look to break a 4 game losing streak that includes to straight losses to open the Missouri Valley Conference season when they visit Missouri State at 8PM tonight.

High School Baskeball
In the lone area high school basketball matchup tonight, the Clarion Goldfield Dows boys and girls varsity teams will visit Belmonde-Klemm beginning at 4PM.

High School Wrestling
The Eagle Grove Eagles head to Southeast Valley High School for a triangular involving Southeast Valley and West Central.
The 8th ranked Clarion Goldfield Dows Cowboys host Algona for a heads up duel at 6:30PM in Clarion.
And of course the biggest news, the Webster City Lynx hit the mat for the first time since December 19th tonight when they head to Hampton-Dumont for a heads up dual. The Lynx wrestlers are currently on a 3 match win streak and are ranked 5th in Class 2A as they kick off 2018 tonight. That match can be heard live on KZWC 92.9FM and 1570AM with prematch festivities starting with yours truly at 6:15PM.
